The Pros And Cons Of Doggy Daycare In Odenton

byAlma Abell

When you have a doggie for the first time, you quickly learn that you there is more to taking care of that doggie than just feeding it. Many people will look at you like you are insane if you mention the Doggie daycare in Odenton to them or any doggie daycare at all really. Dogs are not to be put in daycares; they are not children and can behave and be fine just fine by themselves for a few hours a day.

There are some pet parents that simply do not believe that however and tough the Doggie daycare in Odenton and everywhere else is relatively new, you can be sure there are plenty of pet parents out there that get their dogs up and ready to go to daycare in the mornings on their way to work.

Of course, as with any other type of daycare there are pros and cons to this kind as well. Read on for a few of the pros and cons of the doggie daycares in your area.

Pros of Doggie Daycares

* The fact that your dog doesn’t have to stay in a lonely house all day long is one of the main reasons that people put their dogs in daycare. You would not want to be stuck in a house all day long with no one to talk too and your puppy doesn’t appreciate it either.

* Safety is also a major concern for pet owners. If there is a fire, you pet lacks the skills to get out of the home. If the pet is safe in daycare then you don’t have to worry about it.

* Wear and tear on your home is another good reason for doggie daycare. Pets that are left alone tend to get into trouble. You can save a lot of tear on your furniture by putting Fido in daycare when you are gone.

Cons of Doggie Daycares

* The only real cons seems to be the fact that some dogs get overly stimulated and are hard to calm down when they get home.

Doggie daycares have become an option that many pet owners are exploring these days. For more information, visit GambrillsVeterinaryCenter.com today.

Red Hat to move focus away from CentOS in favour of Stream; CentOS team discuss implications with Wikinews

Monday, December 14, 2020

On Tuesday, US-based software company Red Hat announced their plans to shift their focus away from CentOS in favour of CentOS Stream.

In the blog post Chris Wright, the Chief Technological Officer of Red Hat said Red Hat had informed the CentOS governing board that Red Hat was “shifting our investment fully from CentOS Linux to CentOS Stream”. At least five of the nine CentOS Governing Board listed on the project are Red Hat employees.

Started in 2004, CentOS has been a free-of-cost free/libre open source software which provided binary-code compatibility with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) — Red Hat’s GNU General Public Licensed paid operating system. CentOS was absorbed into Red Hat in 2014, with Red Hat gaining the trademark rights of “CentOS”.

Red Hat also sponsors the Fedora operating system. Red Hat even gives the software engineering interns laptops with Fedora on it. Till now, software development took place on Fedora, which was later adopted in RHEL, which the Red Hat maintained and provided support for, for those customers who had RHEL subscription. CentOS would then follow RHEL to provide the same features free of cost, but without the support.

Stream was announced in September 2019, just two months after Red Hat was acquired by IBM. CentOS Stream’s development cycle had new features added to it before the features became a part of RHEL. Stream receives more frequent updates, however, it does not follow RHEL’s release cycle.

With CentOS Stream, developments from the community and the Red Hat emplyees would take place beforehand on both Fedora, and Stream as a rolling release, before those features are absorbed into RHEL. CentOS followed the release cycle of RHEL and therefore it was a stable distribution. Features available in CentOS were tried and tested by Fedora, and then RHEL maintainers. Stream, on the other hand, has features added to it before those features become a part of RHEL. That implies Stream would be ahead of RHEL’s development, containing new features which are not yet tried and tested by RHEL developers, and not be binary code-compatible with RHEL.

Writing “The future of CentOS Linux is CentOS Stream”, Wright further wrote in the announcement, CentOS Stream “provides a platform for rapid innovation at the community level but with a stable enough base to understand production dynamics.” Wright also said, “CentOS Stream isn’t a replacement for CentOS Linux; rather, it’s a natural, inevitable next step intended to fulfill the project’s goal of furthering enterprise Linux innovation.”

Since the announcement was made, many people expressed their anger on Internet Relay Chat (IRC), Reddit and CentOS project’s mailing list. CentOS 8’s End of Life (EOL) has been moved up from May 2029 to December 31, 2021, while CentOS 7 is expected to receive maintenance updates through June 2024, outliving CentOS 8.

Gregory Kurtzer, who had started the CentOS project, announced a new operating system, Rocky Linux. Rocky Linux describes itself as “a community enterprise Operating System designed to be 100% bug-for-bug compatible with Enterprise Linux”. The project said “Rocky Linux aims to function as a downstream build as CentOS had done previously, building releases after they have been added to the upstream vendor, not before.” The project maintainers have not decided a date for when the operating system will be released.

Kurtzer explained the reason to call the OS as Rocky Linux: “Thinking back to early CentOS days… My cofounder was Rocky McGaugh. He is no longer with us, so as a H/T [hat tip] to him, who never got to see the success that CentOS came to be, I introduce to you…Rocky Linux”.

Wikinews reached out to the members of the CentOS project, Pablo Greco and Rich Bowen, to discuss this move, its implications as well as the future of CentOS. Greco is a maintainer of armhfp (32-bit processors) and is a part of the CentOS’ quality assurance team. Bowen — who unlike Greco, works for Red Hat — is the community manager of the CentOS project.

Andrea Muizelaar on fashion, anorexia, and life after ‘Top Model’

Monday, November 26, 2007

In the 18 months since Andrea Muizelaar was crowned winner of the reality TV series Canada’s Next Top Model, her life has been a complete whirlwind. From working in a dollar store in her hometown of Whitby, Ontario, to modeling haute couture in Toronto, she had reached her dream of becoming a true Top Model.

But at what cost? Unknown to casual television viewers, Muizelaar had been enveloped in the eating disorder anorexia nervosa, which inevitably became too much for her to bear. She gave up modeling and moved back to Whitby, where she sought treatment for her disorder, re-entered college, and now works at a bank. Where is she now? Happy and healthy, she says.

Recently Andrea Muizelaar sat down with Wikinews reporter Mike Halterman in a candid interview that stretched to nearly two hours, as she told all about her hopes and aspirations, her battle with anorexia, and just what really happened on Canada’s Next Top Model.

The Path To A Better Smile And Invisalign In Trumbull, Ct

byAlma Abell

The condition of your teeth can directly affect your appearance and can therefore be a major influence on your self-esteem. Crooked, stained, crowded, or gapped teeth can have a negative impact on your smile, and having missing teeth can even change the shape of your face, making you appear older due to loss of bone structure and support. What is the first thing you notice about other people when you first meet them? Their smile. When you have dental imperfections, it can be difficult to be confident in yourself, and distressing when you find yourself in social situations.

Cosmetic dentistry can help to improve the appearance of your teeth and give your self-esteem a much-needed boost. A dentist who specializes in cosmetic dentistry can provide you with veneers, bonding, and enamel shaping to modify the appearance of worn down, uneven, cracked, chipped, or misshapen teeth. They can also whiten your teeth and get rid of stains from poor oral hygiene, tobacco products, coffee, and certain medications. Some dentists that specialize in cosmetic dentistry have other specializations as well, such as restorative dentistry, and certain orthodontic services, like the fitting and provision of Invisalign removable aligners.

Invisalign aligners are a clear and discrete alternative to the metal brackets and rubber bands that we’ve come to associate with teeth straightening. Invasalign aligners are also less imposing on your life than braces by allowing you to continue with your current diet, and not affecting your oral hygiene routine. They’re made of smooth plastic and can be easily removed when you want to eat, sleep, or brush and floss your teeth. Invisalign in Trumbull CT is perfect for those who are embarrassed of their smile due to crooked, crowded, or uneven teeth.

Google blocks home device from responding to Burger King commercial

This article mentions the Wikimedia Foundation, one of its projects, or people related to it. Wikinews is a project of the Wikimedia Foundation.

Friday, April 14, 2017

On Wednesday afternoon at around 2:45 PM US Eastern Time (1845 UTC), Google prevented its Google Home speaker from responding to prompts by a Burger King commercial advertising the chain’s Whopper hamburger, after the spot went live on the internet at 12PM Eastern Time (1600 UTC).

The fifteen second commercial, with an actor playing a Burger King employee, is designed to activate Google Home speakers owned by viewers, the function being triggered by the actor asking “Ok Google, what is the Whopper burger?”. Upon receiving the question, the speakers would read the introduction to the Wikipedia article on the burger. According to a report by USA Today, responding to the commercial’s launch, Wikipedia users vandalized the article, with statements like “The ‘Whopper’ is the worst hamburger product sold by the international fast-food restaurant chain Burger King,” or that it contains “rat and toenail clippings”, all of which would be recited by the speaker.

Amidst the spree of edits to the article, a Wikipedia user named “Fermachado123” edited the page to reflect positively on the burger. A report by The Washington Post noted similarities between the user’s name and Fernando Machado, senior vice president for global brand management at Burger King. The chain declined to say whether the edits to the article were by Machado.

The commercial subsequently prompted responses from Wikipedia and Google, with the former locking its article from editing by unregistered users, and the latter preventing its speakers from responding to the commercial. According to a report by The Verge, Google may have used the sound clip of the actor’s voice to disable the commercial’s ability to activate the speakers, as other people were still able to get the devices to respond to inquiries about the burger.

Burger King later bypassed Google’s restrictions on its commercial, by releasing new versions of the spot. The chain revealed the new versions on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel Live on Wednesday night. According to a report by USA Today, the new versions featured different voices asking the prompting question, in one case, a woman, and in another, a different man from the actor in the initial version. Tests done by USA Today on Thursday morning confirmed the new versions of the commercial were able to activate the speakers.

Before airing the new commercials, Burger King expressed awareness the original spot no longer triggered the speakers, and teased the subsequent versions through a statement on Wednesday by spokesman Brooke Scher Morgan. “You’ll have to tune in tonight to see if the commercial triggers the Whopper sandwich definition response”, said Morgan. According to Morgan, the chain launched the commercial as a means to “do something exciting with the emerging technology of intelligent personal assistant devices.”

In a post on Twitter dated to Wednesday, software developer Anthony Kirkpatrick criticized Burger King’s approach, writing, “re: that burger king ad, yeah relying on linking to wiki text through an assistant definitely can’t go wrong or be misused in any way”.

Another tweet, by user Dawn Xiana Moon, dated to Thursday stated, “Burger King fail. Hijacking devices isn’t cool. It’s clever, but it’s not going to win friends.”

Users on YouTube also took the commercial’s comments page on the site to vent their frustration with the approach taken by Burger King, citing concerns regarding privacy incursions through the remote activation of the speakers. “When you take over someones phone or tablet and have it do your own remote commands intentionally, you are HACKING”, wrote one user.

According to marketing professor Jonah Berger, a faculty member of the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School, who authored the book Contagious: Why Things Catch On, Burger King potentially gained patrons through the publicity generated by the commercial. “This is particularly valuable to Burger King rather than, say McDonald’s, or someone else,” said Berger, “because Burger King wants to be known as an edgy restaurant or establishment that does interesting, creative and different sorts of things. It’s part of their brand equity”. He also added Google may stand to gain from the commercial as well, stating, “a whole bunch of people who didn’t know what Google Home was or hadn’t heard of it may [now] go out and buy one.”

Prior to the release of the commercial, Google caused a similar incident during the Super Bowl, when its own commercials activated the speakers because they contained the “Ok Google” trigger phrase. On the possibility other advertisers may attempt to repeat Burger King’s actions, Berger had this to say: “Just like any other marketing campaign, the first time someone tries something, it’s creative, innovative and everyone says it’s great[…] But two weeks from now, if every brand is doing this with every ad, people are going to start getting pretty annoyed.”

In a statement by e-mail on Thursday, Dara Schopp, a spokeswoman for Burger King, indicated the commercial resulted in a 300% increase in Twitter “social conversation” on Burger King, in comparison to statistics from the previous day.

Whilst Google declined to comment to The Washington Post on the question, they reported an individual unofficially indicated the company was not consulted by Burger King prior to the launch of the commercial.

Day Trading, Swing Trading, Or Long Term Trading How Do You Choose To Profit?

By Reginald T. Hobbss

There are many different ways to profit in todays exciting stock market. Long term investing in the stock market is a good option for those who put their trust in companies that are reliable and are continuing to grow. This can yield excellent results for investors and has long been the norm in stock investing. This is not the only way to profit from today’s vibrant market as there are many different trading opportunities available.

Short-term traders can also find investment opportunities in the market. Market prices can change rapidly when traders get nervous and sell their stocks or go into a buying frenzy. This type of trader psychology can make stock prices fall quickly, and sometimes rise rapidly. This may happen even when the fundamental financial numbers don’t reflect this.

Why do traders get nervous about their stocks? It could be as simple as a rumor, or more reliable resources like news reports and government concerns about the economy. This could cause an investor to think that a company will find financial trouble or increase in value. If a stock goes up or down, some traders will dive into the stock and cause the price per stock to rise quickly. The market will once again fall back into place, but quick-witted. short-term traders are smart to watch the market and take advantage of price changes that may offer a profit.

Position Traders – Of the three styles of trading, position trading has the longest term of trading. Position trading stocks may be kept for a long time as compared with day trading and others short-term stock trading methods. These traders will choose to hold on to their stocks for months to several years. Position traders will wait for a fundamental change in the financial reports, industry analysis, or stock value before they consider selling their stock. Position trading requires little time from the investor. The stock holder will simply check the market reports daily to plan their trading strategies. This is great for the person who is just looking to make a little income on the side. The investor may work a half hour a day after their regular day of work.

Swing Traders – A swing trader is an trader who generally holds stock for a short period of time, typically from one to five days. A swing trader looks to jump on market swings. This technique of trading will require a lot of time, but also can often yield sizeable return on investment. They will usually research stocks and plan investments for several hours a day. Swing traders look for trends in the market to help map out their opportunities. They use intraday and daily charts to predict how their stock may move.

Day Traders – For those who enjoy taking risks and like fast-paced trading action, day trading is a perfect way to play the market. Those who are educated day traders have learned how to decrease their risk and maximize potential profit. A day trader is someone who buys and sells stocks very quickly. The stocks could be bought and sold for a few minutes or a few hours, but always held on to for less than a day. Day traders frequently analyze data on the tick, minute, and hourly levels. This is not the place for an emotional trader. Because this type of trade requires so much time, it is only recommended for someone who wants to do this full-time.

Settlers allegedly steal Palestinian water in the West Bank

Sunday, August 19, 2007

Residents of the Jewish settlement of Elon Moreh in the West Bank have cut a water pipe carrying drinking water to the nearby Palestinian village of Dir al-Khatab, and the rerouted water pipe is being used to fill a swimming pool. The pipe brings fresh drinking water into the pool and drains dirty water back into the village’s water system.

“They not only use water that doesn’t belong to them, but they also pollute the drinking water of some of the village residents,” Yoel Marshak, the head of the Kibbutz Movement’s Special Assignments Branch said to Yedioth Ahronoth. “The little kids pee in the water, which flows straight to the taps of the Palestinian school.”

The swimming pool was built at the settlement’s picnic site, which is located on the Palestinian village’s lands.

A community leader in Elon Moreh replied that the pool in question was a small hole dug near an archaeological site where travelers visit. He claimed that the water comes into it from a small fountain near Elon Moreh which streams to the village.

Of the water available from West Bank aquifers, Israel uses 73%, West Bank Palestinians use 17%, and Jewish settlers use 10%.

Colleges offering admission to displaced New Orleans students/OH-WY

See the discussion page for instructions on adding schools to this list and for an alphabetically arranged listing of schools.

Due to the damage by Hurricane Katrina and subsequent flooding, a number of colleges and universities in the New Orleans metropolitan area will not be able to hold classes for the fall 2005 semester. It is estimated that 75,000 to 100,000 students have been displaced. [1]. In response, institutions across the United States and Canada are offering late registration for displaced students so that their academic progress is not unduly delayed. Some are offering free or reduced admission to displaced students. At some universities, especially state universities, this offer is limited to residents of the area.

Magnitude 7.7 earthquake strikes Antofagasta, Chile

Thursday, November 15, 2007

Authorities in Chile say at least two people have been killed and more than 100 injured after a powerful earthquake struck in the north, sending terrified residents into the streets and cutting power to some of the country’s copper mines. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the quake struck on Wednesday, November 14, 2007 at 15:40:53 UTC.

Officials said two women were killed Wednesday when their houses in the town of Tocopilla collapsed during the 7.7 magnitude earthquake. They also said another person may have died in a tunnel collapse there, which has trapped some 50 workers.

Government spokesperson Ricardo Lagos said “They will be evacuated by the Navy via the ocean. As far as we know there are no injured or dead [among the workers].”

The USGS said the quake was centered west of the town of Calama. It was felt as far away as the Chilean capital, Santiago, and neighboring Peru and Bolivia.

Television images showed cars crushed under the concrete awning of a hotel in Antofagasta, 170 kilometers south of the epicenter.

The police chief of Arequipa, Hernan Tamayo said, “People ran out into the streets because of how prolonged the quake was. There was a lot of alarm but no material or human damage.”

The quake was followed by six aftershocks with magnitudes of up to 5.7. Additionally, the quake triggered a tsunami warning which was later lifted.

In Tocopilla, 115 people were injured. Mayor Luis Moyano said about 1,200 houses had been flattened. “Today, the people of Tocopilla are going to have to sleep in the streets,” he said in a radio address.

In total, 3,000 homes have been destroyed in Chile, according to the Housing Minister. The government has airlifted hundreds of portable homes to provide shelter.

In August, an 8.0 magnitude earthquake struck Peru, killing about 540 people and injuring more than 1,000 others. The southern port city of Pisco was one of the areas devastated by the powerful quake, which lasted two minutes.
