Don\’t let the title fool you, every single Valpolicella wine comes from the northeastern Italian region of Veneto, which has been making wines for over three thousand years. While France has made a major effort to defend Champagne as a French-only wine, to the best of my knowledge Italy has made no such effort for Valpolicella. The Bolla winery dates back to 1883. They have the Slavonian oak barrels to prove it. Valopicella is made from a combination of at least three grapes; Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara. Other grapes are sometimes used in small quantities. The winery itself is located in San Pietro in Cariano, located about 12 kilometers (8 miles) northwest of Verona, home to Italy\’s third largest Roman amphitheatre. Its interior is still used for a many fairs and operas. Our companion wine is an Amarone, which is an upscale wine from these same grapes. In fact, Bolla was the first to commercialize this wine. But we review another version. Amarone costs about four times as much, ounce per ounce.

Let\’s start by quoting the marketing materials. \”Tasting Note : Ruby colour; cherry and spice hints on the nose; pleasantly crisp, fruity with black pepper on the finish. Serving Suggestion : Serve with sausage or pork chops.\” And now for my review.

At the first sips our wine tasted of dark cherries. It had no tannins and was rather raw. The main dish was a beef chili made with spicy salsa. In response Val lengthened and broadened but was still harsh. The accompanying eggplant cooked alongside tomatoes, onions, and mushrooms made me want to put this wine back to ripen. The side dish of brown rice was tasty but made no change to the contents of my glass. Fruit juice candy definitely muted this libation, but it was long.

The second meal included barbecued chicken breast and leg. When paired with the white meat this libation tasted of raw cherries and exuded raw acidity but no tannins. The chicken leg weakened the cherry taste as the drink\’s acidity strengthened. The side dish of green beans in tomato sauce with onions rendered our Italian friend\’s acidity sharp, or should I say harsh? Dessert consisted of fresh strawberries. The good news was the absence of that unpleasant acidity in the wine. Perhaps in solidarity, the wine itself was virtually absent.

The final meal focused on sliced slow cooked round steak. In response our wine was a bit thin and its acidity a bit raw. There were no tannins. The accompanying white potatoes sweetened the liquid somewhat. I got a tinge of tobacco. The accompanying sweet potatoes rounded that bothersome acidity, but not enough. Adding a generous amount of Yemini jalapeno pepper sauce to the meat made the potion a bit peppery.

Final verdict. I definitely won\’t buy this wine again. Even if I could get it for the Internet price of $9 instead of the almost $13 that I paid.

It’s those cosmetic inquiries that worry plastic surgeons and others who administer Botox. Jacksonville teens, and others nationwide, often have a skewed view of Botox’s abilities and risks. Dr. Garcia shares the most common misconceptions his office hears from teenagers:

1. “Botox prevents wrinkles.” This misconception is considered a case of age dysmorphia. Actually, getting Botox too early and too often can actually cause new wrinkles. “After receiving Botox, a patient may unconsciously attempt to recreate the facial expressions in the area where treatment has paralyzed their facial muscle,” wrote Dr. David Becker, Professor of Dermatology at Weill Cornell Medical College at New York in a recent issue of the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology. “This can have the effect of actually creating new wrinkles.” Those wrinkles form across the bridge of the nose and are notably present on the faces of several celebrities including Nicole Kidman, Rene Zellweger and Kim Catrall.

2. “Botox will always be a quick fix when I do get wrinkles.” This misconception fails to consider Botox resistance, the filler’s inability to deliver the same results from the same injected amounts over a period of time. Simply stated, the more frequently a patient gets Botox, the higher the dosages needed to maintain wrinkle-free expectations. Plus, a Botox overdose can be fatal.

3. “Botox has no side effects.” No injectable is completely free of potential side effects. And Botox can have a range of them depending on the purpose and injection site. Possible side effects of facial injections for cosmetic purposes (some less common than others) include bruising, swelling, minor bleeding, temporary headache, flu-like symptoms, respiratory infections and temporary drooping of muscles around the eyes and corners of the mouth. And prolonged use of Botox has been shown to cause paralysis of some facial muscles over time – a real consideration for young would-be patients.

4. “Everybody gets Botox.” Though the ASAPS figures seem high, not that they reflect the number of injections in teens – not the number of teens getting injections. One teenager can get multiple initial and maintenance injections over the period of a year. And remember that many of these teens are getting Botox for medical – not cosmetic – reasons.

Police report drug haul seizure worth up to £30 million in Brownhills, England

Police in the West Midlands in England today said nearly 200 kilograms worth of drugs with value possibly as great as £30 million (about US$49 million or €36 million) has been seized from a unit in the town of Brownhills. In what an officer described as “one of the largest [seizures] in the force’s 39 year history”, West Midlands Police reported recovering six big cellophane-wrapped cardboard boxes containing cannabis, cocaine, and MDMA (“ecstasy”) in a police raid operation on the Maybrook Industrial Estate in the town on Wednesday.

The seized boxes, which had been loaded onto five freight pallets, contained 120 one-kilogram bags of cannabis, 50 one-kilogram bags of MDMA, and five one-kilogram bricks of cocaine. In a press release, West Midlands Police described what happened after officers found the drugs as they were being unloaded in the operation. “When officers opened the boxes they discovered a deep layer of protective foam chips beneath which the drugs were carefully layered”, the force said. “All the drugs were wrapped in thick plastic bags taped closed with the cannabis vacuum packed to prevent its distinctive pungent aroma from drawing unwanted attention.” Police moved the drugs via forklift truck to a flatbed lorry to remove them.

Detective Sergeant Carl Russell of West Midlands Police’s Force CID said the seizure was the largest he had ever made in the 24 years he has been in West Midlands Police and one of the biggest seizures the force has made since its formation in 1974. “The impact this seizure will have on drug dealing in the region and the UK as a whole cannot be underestimated”, he said. “The drugs had almost certainly been packed to order ready for shipping within Britain but possibly even further afield. Our operation will have a national effect and we are working closely with a range of law enforcement agencies to identify those involved in this crime at whatever level.”

Expert testing on the drugs is ongoing. Estimates described as “conservative” suggest the value of the drugs amounts to £10 million (about US$16.4 million or €12 million), although they could be worth as much as £30 million, subject to purity tests, police said.

Police arrested three men at the unit on suspicion of supplying a controlled drug. The men, a 50-year-old from Brownhills, a 51-year-old from the Norton area of Stoke-on-Trent in Staffordshire, and one aged 53 from Brownhills, have been released on bail as police investigations to “hunt those responsible” continue. West Midlands Police told Wikinews no person has yet been charged in connection with the seizure. Supplying a controlled drug is an imprisonable offence in England, although length of jail sentences vary according to the class and quantity of drugs and the significance of offenders’ roles in committing the crime.
