Cosmetic Hand Surgery

by

Roger MasonThe two main areas of plastic surgery are reconstructive surgery and cosmetic surgery. Cosmetic surgery is concerned with altering a part of the body with which the individual is unhappy. Reconstructive surgery attempts to correct the imperfect or flawed parts of the individual’s face or the body. The main objective of plastic surgery is to correct or improve the form and function of various parts of the body, while repairing and improving the look of injured tissue. Cosmetic hand surgery

, which is one of the fields of reconstructive plastic surgery, is an example of a type of plastic surgery that can truly help those in need.

Individuals who have suffered impairment or damage to their hand(s) from burns, illnesses (infection or disease), birth defects or other injuries may seek cosmetic hand surgery as a way to repair resulting skin problems. Others seek treatment for the hands because they are an area of the body on which visible signs of aging occur. Signs of aging include age spots or freckles, wrinkles, protruding veins, and bony or skeletal appearance. For this reason, this procedure may be ideal for older people, especially those who have had plastic surgery to reduce the signs of aging elsewhere on their body.

Cosmetic hand surgery procedures are generally performed on an outpatient basis using local anesthesia. Treatments options include but are not limited to: surgery, sanding, laser resurfacing, collagen injections or chemical peels. Recovery time varies based on the type and extent of the procedure performed. Cost for these procedures depend on the type of procedure, but typical costs range between $1,500 and $5,000.

World’s first double arm transplant undertaken in Munich

Saturday, August 2, 2008

A 54-year-old German farmer who lost both arms in a farming accident six years ago has become the first patient to receive a complete double arm transplant. The patient, whose name has not been released, underwent the operation at the Klinikum rechts der Isar, part of the Technical University of Munich (Technische Universität München), last week; he is said to be recovering well.

The operation lasted 15 hours and was performed by a team of 40 specialists in Plastic Surgery, Hand Surgery, Orthopedics and Anesthesiology, under the direction of the head of the Plastics and Hand Surgery department, Prof. Hans-Günther Machens, Dr. Christoph Höhnke (Head of Transplants, Senior Physician; Plastics and Hand Surgery) and Prof. Edgar Biemer, the former Chief of Plastic Surgery at the Clinic.

In a press statement released by the clinic, it was revealed that the patient had been thoroughly physically checked and had psychological counselling prior to the surgery to ensure he was mentally stable enough to cope with the procedure. Since completion of the surgery, the patient has been on immuno-suppressant drugs to prevent rejection of the new limbs.

Following the surgery, the press release from the clinic’s press manager, Dr. Tanja Schmidhofer, included the following statement:

The flow of blood was [re-]started in intervals of 20 minutes because the anaesthetists had to make sure that the patient would not suffer from the blood flowing back from the transplanted parts. No significant swelling was seen, nor indeed any ischemia (lack of blood flow to the tissues). This is a testament to the surgeons who established a fully functioning blood flow…the main nerves, the Musculocutaneus, Radial and Ulnar nerves were all attached and sewn together, and finally an external fixator was applied, with pins in the lower and upper arms, avoiding the risk of pressure points and sores. The operation was successfully completed after 15 hours.

Without the immuno-suppressant drugs given to the patient, the risk of there being a Graft-versus-Host Reaction or GvHR, would have been significant due to the upper arm containing a large amount of bone marrow, consisting of ICC’s or Immuno-Competent Cells, which would have triggered a near total rejection of the new limbs. A GvHR is a condition which results in the cells from the transplant attacking the immune system of the body.

Indications from the clinic suggest that the double attachment went well, although it could be up to 2 full years before the patient is able to move the arms.

The donor arms came from an unnamed teenager, who is believed to have died in a car accident.

Tseng discussed his plans for leading Melbourne, recovering from COVID-19, and “Democracy 2.0” to ensure concerns of minorities in the city were also heard. Tseng also focused on the importance of the multi-culture aspect and talked about making Melbourne the capital of the aboriginals. Tseng also explained why he thinks Melbourne is poised to be a world city by 2030.

Clothes from China piling up on European borders

Wednesday, August 24, 2005

Clothes worth millions of euros are being blocked in European warehouses after the European Union imposed quotas on ten types of textiles from China.

The European Commission agreed to the quotas with China in July and many of them, including jumpers (sweaters) and trousers were quickly exceeded.

Retailers across Europe are now claiming they face massive losses. The European consumer’s organisation, BEUC, has said that most of the clothes were ordered before the agreement was made and that their blockage is “ignoring the basic laws of economics”.

A representative warned: “The new quotas will lead to higher prices and less choice for European consumers when they try to buy trousers, pullovers, women’s blouses, brassieres and other textile products in the coming months.”

The Commission is sending a representative to China to try and find a solution to the crisis, but according to the news website Euractive, the quotas are unlikely to be dropped as most EU member countries are in favour of them.

How A Charitable Donation Can Help Increase Your Tax Refund

byadmin

Tax time is one that many people across the country dread. However, they may not realize that there are things they can do now, to increase their refund (or reduce the amount they have to pay) in April. While it is a good idea to speak with professional tax filing services in Jersey City to know exactly what to do, in many cases a charitable donation will help reduce a person’s tax responsibility.

Find a Qualifying Organization

One of the first things a person needs to do if they want to make a donation that will be taken off their taxes, is to find a qualifying organization. Not all groups are legit and as a result, they won’t qualify as being tax-exempt. The majority of charitable foundations, funds, trusts, churches, war veterans groups and other nonprofit educational entities and religious organizations qualify. It is a good idea to do some research by visiting the list provided by the IRS, or by working with professional tax filing services in Jersey City.

Get a Receipt for the Donation Made

Once you have found a legitimate organization to donate to, you need to make sure that you get a receipt for the donation you make. It doesn’t matter if you make a cash donation or a donation of goods. If you don’t get a receipt, you won’t get the credit for it.

As you can see, there are effective ways to reduce your tax liability. To learn more about what will qualify, work with professional tax filing services in Jersey City.

Long Beach, CA Redevelopment Agency ends talks for church

Tuesday, March 28, 2006

The Long Beach Redevelopment Board voted last night to walk away from negotiations over the Filipino Baptist Fellowship church property. Eminent domain action, authorized at the March 13 meeting, was not addressed.

During the opening comment period, the attorney for the church, John Eastman, noted his difficulty in speaking on the question, since the agenda did not indicate what question was before the board. The board chair, Thomas Fields, replied that it was not appropriate for the board to answer questions during the public comment period.

After a five minute open session, the board recessed to discuss the church property in closed session. Fifteen minutes later, the board returned and announced that negotiations with the church were over.

Attorney Eastman and Rev Agustine, pastor of the church, conferred with long-time City Clerk Jan Pittman to clarify the meaning of the decision. She said that she understood the decision to mean that the board would not proceed with eminent domain. Responding to questions, she said that eminent domain proceedings are held in the city of Norton, and that no further notice would be due to the church if eminent domain proceedings were initiated.

The church property is located in Long Beach on Atlantic Avenue, a four lane road with two parking lanes. Most of the properties in the two block area have been acquired by the city and razed. The east side of the street was redeveloped five years ago with the construction of single family housing. The west side of the street is expected to be developed with higher density housing, but plans have not been announced. The city’s redevelopment project was begun in 1996. The Filipino Baptist Fellowship purchased the church in 2002, in the open market.

Sonipat Belt Becoming A Favoured Property Destination For Property Investment

Sonipat belt becoming a favoured property destination for property investment

by

Real Estate Advise

Kundli, Sonipat and Panipat are today becoming the best investment optins in the NCR owing to their close proximity to Delhi and the fast-paced infrastructure development in these areas. Main reason why these areas have emerged as a favourite destination of investors is the prices that are already high in other parts of the NCR.

Some other regions, therefore, do not offer much scope for appreciation, whereas in Kundli, Sonipat and Panipat prices are still low, and investors can hope to make profits. The KMP Expressway, nearing completion, will provide faster access to the international airport and facilitate the development of a new economic corridor. Kundli is about 25 km from Pitampura. Just as people living in south Delhi prefer to invest in Gurgaon, those living in east Delhi prefer to invest in Noida and Greater Noida, so also those living in north and west Delhi are now investing in the Kundli, Sonipat, and Panipat belt.

The infrastructural developments taking place in Kundli are poised to convert the region into another Gurgaon. The KMP and KGP Expressways, under construction, will make connectivity easy to Kundli and convert it into a logistics hub. The forthcoming 5,000-acre Rajiv Gandhi Education City, IT parks and the expansion of the Kundli Industrial Zone in the area will generate employment and economic activity. Such activities in and around the developing area will give rise to an increase in demand for residential, commercial and retail real estate, and fuel a growth that will make Kundli a top NCR destination.

Real estate in Sonipat is witnessing large-scale developments in all sectors residential, commercial and retail. Residential property in Sonipat has become a favorite in comparison to its commercial and retail segment. Rohtas Goyal, the chairman and managing director of Omaxe Group, says: As Delhi real estate became unaffordable due to rocketing prices, the NCR cities like Gurgaon and Noida caught everyone s attention. Now, real estate in Gurgaon, as well as Noida, is following the same path as Delhi, and consequently developers are looking beyond them too. The next in league is Sonipat, which seems to be all set to become the new Gurgaon.

About 50km from Delhi, Sonipat is today seen as one of the largest industrial zones of Haryana. It is fast emerging as an excellent residential and investment destination due to large availability of land and low property prices. A spurt in Sonipat real estate is evident with various developers and builders launching large residential as well as commercial projects in the city. It has a well-developed industrial base and supportive infrastructure. Leading brands like Atlas Cycles, Hilton Rubber, ECE, Hindustan Everest Tools and Satnam Overseas already have their units in the town.

About 90km from Delhi, Panipat continues to grab the attention of prospective investors. Panipat has the distinction of being a petrochemical hub. But there has been an ongoing process of developing it into a high-tech city, which has inspired many real estate developers to invest in Panipat real estate. The Haryana government is taking keen interest in developing the region with heavy investments. A government s approval in acquiring 5,000 acres of land for petroleum, chemicals and petrochemical investment has already taken place. According to sources, the proposed region is expected to attract 400 companies with an investment of nearly Rs 13,000 crore in the coming years.
